xubuntu ei sulje konetta

Moi,
asensin  vanhaan compaqiin (500 MHz pena III, muistia 384M) koneeseen xubuntua 6.10 kaikki meni ihan hyvin, mutta kone ei sammu, kun pitäisi. Valikosta sammuttamisen jälkeen kone selvästi ajaa ohjelmia alas, mutta sitten lopuksi se jämähtää siihen hiirilogo ruutuun ja kone sammuu vain kun olen painanut käynnistysnappia sen yleisen tapon eli 5sek. Tämä sama tapahtui ubuntulla. Asensin molemmat  iso cd:ltä. Minulla oli aikaisemmin samassa koneessa  6.06 ja se toimi ihan hyvin. Mitähän pitäis viilata vai palaanko käyttämään 6.06:sta. Tämän koneen on tarkoitus mennä yhdelle eläkeläiskerholle nettikäyttöön ja sähköpostinlukuun. Yritän myös opettaa heitä käyttämään linuxia. "eipä tämä omakaan taito päätä huimaa, mutta harjoitus tekee mestarin...." Tuolla kyseisellä raudalla pitäisi pärjätä, sillä emo ei tue suurempaa prossua, eikä suurempaa muistin määrää. Molemmat asennukset tein kokonaan uudestaan puhtaalle levylle.

Niin, sinänsä tuollaisessa käytössä 6.06 riittää aivan hyvin, etenkin kun se on se pitkänkantaman Ubuntu (LTS).

Päivityksellä ei saada varmaan juurikaan muuta isompaa etua kuin uuden init yms. systeemin (upstart)
tuoma buuttaus / sammutus -nopeus etu. Joka nyt on tavallaan turha etu, jos se ei edes sammu.

Eli sekö sammuu Dapperilla (6.06), mutta ei Edgyllä (6.10)?

Kokeilepa niin että painat Ctrl+Alt+F2 ja kirjaudut sisään.

Komenna sitten sudo init 0 jolloin nähdään osaako se yleensäkään sammua.
Tuo komento käskee "sen" menemään ajotasolle 0 = mennään tilaan "virta pois".
Kerro mitä tapahtuu, niin mietitään lisää.

Katso myös komennolla dmesg mitä käynnistysvaiheessa on tapahtunut.
Ja muutenkin /var/log -hakemiston lokeja kannattaa vilkaista, syslog esim.
Laita vaikkapa liitetiedostoina tänne ne, jos niissä jotakin nähtävää on (dmesg lähinnä)

Moi,
tosiaan on niin, että 6.06:lla sammuu ja toimii niin kuin pitää.

sudo init 0 pysähtyi samaan kohtaan eli kone jäi päälle eikä auttanut kuin se 5sek tappo.

kokeilin vielä komentoriviltä vanhasta muistista rh komentoa shutdown -h now ja sekin pysähtyi samaan kohtaan.

dmesg lista on aika pitkä, mutta laitan sen tähän.

eli vähän vihjailee että ei halua käyttää ACPI:a koska BIOS on liian vanha.
johon sitten muka voisi kokeilla boot-parametriä acpi=force
Empä tiedä, no sitähän tietenkin on helpohko kokeilla, Grub -menussa valikoitse ko. kohta josta tämä Ubuntu käynnistetään, paina e ja valitse kernel rivi (tms), paina taas e ja lisää riville acpi=force paina Enter ja sitten b jolloin kone käynnisttyy. (kirjoitettu ulkomuistista Windowsissa, mutta jotenkin noin)

Tuo ei tallenna sitä /boot/grub/menu.lst tiedostoon, sinne se pitää sitten itse lisätä jos auttaa.
Vaan mikäpä se oli tuo APIC sitten, en muista?

BIOS-päivitys saattaisi auttaa sekin? (ehkä ei kannata koska 6.06 toimii)

Eli, kauheasti ei kuitenkaan varmaan kannata taistella kun kerran 6.06 toimii?

Tuohan se APIC on, ei varmaan liittyne tähän ongelmaan.

ACPI kuitenkin liittyy, mutta varovainen kannattaa olla aina,
yhtään ei tiedä mitä se tekee kun forcella pakottaa päälle.
Tuskin nyt mitään mahdottoman pahaa kuitenkaan, vaikka mistä näistä tietää, vanhoista vehkeistä.

Suomennos: asenna 6.06 takaisin jos et halua riskeerata mitään.

Mulla ainakin kotikone lakkasi sammumasta, kun vaihdoin Dapperin kernelin 386:sta 686:seksi. oiskohan sulla sama syy (sulla Dapperinssa 386- ja Edgyssä 686-kerneli? ACPI:n forcettamista en ole kokeillu, täytyypä tehdä se viikonloppuna, kun pääsen takaisin kotikonnuille.

Onkohan tähän löytynyt ratkaisua? Itsellänikin Ubuntu 6.06LTS ja 686SMP -kernel, eikä kone sammu eikä buuttaa. Kernelin tarkempaa tyyppiä en tähän hätään pääse katsomaan, ku kone kippas jonkun koettaessa hakkeroida sinne sisäänpääsyä
