GeForce 8800 GTX ja tuplanäytöllinen probleema [RATKAISTU]

Pitää korjata xorg.conf. Lue vaikka Arch Linux tai Gentoon wikiä. InputDevice taitaa olla InputClass nykyään. Itse käytän hiirelle ja näppäimistölle evdev ajuria.

X:n konffaus on muuttunut vuosien mittaan. Riippuu hieman mikä X ja WM käytössä. TwinView antaa sinulle yhden ison työpöydän. Tarvitset kaksi monitor sektiota. Nyt vain yksi

Gentoon ja Arch Linuxin wikeissä hyviä esimerkkejä. xorg.conf tai xorg.conf.d/* kirjoittelu on työläs prosessi. DISPLAY=:0.1 käynnistää ohjelman toiselle näytölle. Esim. DISPLAY=:0.1 vlc. Itselläni ei ole mitään käsitystä miten Windowsissa saa ohjelman käynnistymään tietylle näytölle. X:ssä se onnistuu vaikka virtuaaliselle näytölle. Windowsissa minua häiritsi se, että ohjelmat käynnistyi minne sattui.

nano turvallinen editori myös. Ennen editointia kannattaa ottaa varmuuskopio. Jos jotain pahasti pielessä X ei enää käynnisty. sudo nano -w xorg.conf. Optio w estää automaattisen rivityksen, mikä voi aiheuttaa harmia. Varmuus on aina parasta.

Suurin osa konfiguraatiosta on nykyisin turhaa, kun automatiikkakin toimii. Nuo nvidia-xconfigin lisäämät säädöt voi siis halutessaan poistaa. Ei niistä kuitenkaan yleensä ole haittaakaan, ja ajurin uudelleenasennus saattaa lisätä ne taas xorg.confiin.

Ei tarvita välttämättä yhtään monitor-sectionia. Niistä on hyötyä lähinnä lisättäessä omia modelineja.

Taikka jos haluaa virran säästön pois ja muistaakseni myös näytön EDID arvot voi lukea tiedostosta. Ja voi niihin lisätä myös sijainnin. Esim.

Jos lähtee kokeilemaan noita geneerisempiä asetuksia, metamodes-rivi kannattanee kommentoida pois käytöstä (#-merkki rivin alkuun).

Monitor-sectionin sisällä oleva identifier määrää, mihin näyttöön asetukset vaikuttavat. Sen tulee olla samassa muodossa kuin xrandr:n listaama nimi, eli uhapolla DVI-I-0 tai DVI-I-3

Koska se onnistuu muuttamaan näyttöjen paikkoja kaatamatta mitään, pitäisi olla mahdollista tehdä monitors.xml-tiedosto, jossa on asetettu oikeat sijainnit, ja kopioida tiedosto LightDM:n "kotihakemistoon", jolloin asetukset tulevat käyttöön.
monitors.xml:ää pitänee muokata käsin, jos Ubuntun näyttöasetustyökalu kaataa työpöydän ennen kuin se onnistuu tallentamaan asetuksia tiedostoon. Näytä tiedoston sisältö, jos kaipaat neuvoja muokkaukseen.

monitors.xml:ssä on määritelty kunkin näytön kohdalla valmistaja (vendor) tuote (product) ja sarjanumero (serial). Konfiguraatio otetaan käyttöön vain, jos ne täsmäävät porttiin kytketyn näytön kanssa. Samassa tiedostossa voi myös määritellä useita vaihtoehtoisia konfiguraatioita, joista valitaan käyttöön se, joka täsmää kytkettyihin näyttöihin ja portteihin.

Uudelle näytölle varmaankin ilmaantuu uusi konfiguraatio-osio monitors.xml:ään automaattisesti tai sen jälkeen kun käyt Ubuntun näyttöasetuksissa. Voit sitten kopioida nuo tunnisteet vanhaan toimivaan konfiguraatioon.
