Tarkoittaa sitä, ettei laitetiedostoa /dev/wlan0 ole. Voit tosin tarkistaa löytyisikö jokin muu wlan laite komennolla ls -l /dev/wlan*.
Komennolla lsmod selviäisi, onko jokin moduli ladattuna laitettasi varten. Lisäksi, jos laitteesi tarvitsee firmwaren, löytyisikö siitä jotakin tietoa /lib/firmware -hakemistosta ja sen alihakemistoista.
Yhä jään vain ihmettelemään tuota ifconfig:in ppp0:tä. Käytössä jokin modeemi kuten kännykkä tms?

Ei mielestäni mitään kummempaa. ath9k -moduli on ladattuna kuten pitäneekin.
Tosin sielä on lisäksi ath5-moduli, mutta sen ei pitäisi mitenkään sotkea.
Vielä voisi tarkistaa, että /lib/firmware -hakemistosta löytyy jokin tuohon atheros-laitteeseen viittaava firmware.
Mutta luulenpa, että tuokin olisi kunnossa.

Se valo kyllä elää aivan omaa elämäänsä. Ei kannata luottaa siihen, että wlan on päällä vaikka valo olisikin. Tämä on huomattu ainakin kahdella koneella.

Ei vissiin ollut mitään asennuksia tehty kun se wlan mykistyi? Sellaisessa tapauksessa on ainakin kerran muuttunut jostain kumman syystä BIOS asetuksissa wlan disabled asentoon. Siinä kylläkin asennettiin Ubuntu Xsandrosin tilalle, joten...

Painonappin asennolla ei ole merkitystä, valo on aina sinisenä mutta kaikki toimii ennallaan vaikka se olisikin keltaisena.
