Kehitys kehittyy - pelkäsin pahinta, mutta Ubuntu 7.10 osaa näköjään ottaa käyttöön "Vista yhteensopivat" isot LCD-näytöt Plug 'n' Play -periaatteella. Kivaa.

Kone sammuksiin, uusi näyttö kiinni ja resoluution valinta järjestelmän ylläpidosta (Näytöt ja kuva). Se oli siinä.

Ah auvoa 

Sallittakoon pieni nostalgiatuokio. Ensimmäinen näyttöni oli kahden floppy-aseman PC:ssä, tuumia oli varmaan 10 tai 12, vihreää mustalla pohjalla. Mutta niin vain sillä kirjoittelin gradua. Ensin laitettiin dos-floppy a:-asemaan, otettiin pois ja laitettiin tilalla wp 4.?-floppy. Gradu oli b:-asemassa. Auts 

Silti teen edelleen ihan samoja asioita tietokoneella, pääasiassa se on vain vanha kunnon kirjoituskone 

Pelkoni perustui osaltaan tähän sivuun, minulla on vain VGA-liitin - mutta näköjän Ubuntu 7.04:stä ollaan tultu pitkä matka eteenpäin:

Asmo sinä vaikutat aika asiantuntevalta Linuxissa, tässä olisi kysymys,

Minä omistan tällä hetekellä 21" CRT samsung 1100df näytön,
Ubuntu kuva on ihan kohdallaansa, mutta virkistys taajuudet ovat vähän outoja 51z 73z jne..

nyt olisi tarvetta laittaa kaksi tietokonetta samaan näyttöön 1100df on vain yhdellä vga liittimellä..

eli, uuden näytön ostaminen edessä, minulla on vähän huolia siintä minkä näytön saan toimimaan ubuntun kanssa..
tarkoitus olisi ostaa acerin 22" taikka 24" taikka sitten benq 22" taikka samsung 22" tai 24"..

Tuossa Tero Karvisen jutussa on käytössä Acer AL2216W, lienee siis sama näyttö?

Tuo juttu päättyy Ubuntu 7.04:ään, siinä ei kerrota Ubuntu 7.10:stä mitään.

Sikäli mikäli ymmärrän, niin näiden isojen näyttöjen käyttö vaatii kahta asiaa.

1. Grafiikkapiiri tai -kortti tukee näytön resoluutiota (voi olla enemmänkin kuin 1680x1050) täydellä värisyvyydellä (24/32).
2. X.org-ohjelmisto on tarpeeksi uusi tukemaan grafiikkapiiriä tai -korttia.

Suljetut 3D-kortit tuovat oman mausteensa keitokseen.

Itse pääsin vähällä, koska oma grafiikkapiirini ja Ubuntu 7.10 täyttivät nuo ehdot.

Kerro vielä oma grafiikkapiirisi tai -korttisi, niin Googlataan.

Minun nykyinen grafiikka korttini on GeForce 5200 FX, siinä on ongelmia hz kanssa mun hz on jotain 51z 52z 77z jne..
xp ssä hz menee 5z välein..
tai no ongelma ?? kyllähän mulla kuva ruudussa on, mutta pieni pelko on koko ajan noitten kummallisten hz takia,,

ton uuden monitorin ohella olisi tarkoitus laittaa tämän nykyisen tietsikan rinnalla (X?)ubuntu serveri,
sitä saa esim www.datajyra.fi 270e nettijyra siinähän olisi GeForce 6100,

olen aika ymmälläni näitten monitorien ja näytönohjainten suhteen,
silloin 90 luvun alussa oli oikeastaan vain trident 1m,,

uskallatko sanoa mitään näitten uusien 24" toimivuudesta ubuntun (+muitten julkaisujen ) kera,

tulin juuri verkkokaupasta katselemasta näitä uusia monitoreja, siellä oli ubuntu 7.04 kone ja toi acer 22", siinä oli resot vain 4:3,
myyjä sanoi että ei ole monitorin vika vaan näytönohjaimen ??

mikä toi x.org ohjelma on, se on siis uusin x.org tässä ubuntu 7.10 versiossa, vai tuleeko se asentaa erikseen ??

mitenkähän tää kuvan laatu ( värinä, värit, vääristymät, sumeus ) eroaa 245e ja 350e monitoreissa,
olivat kaikki verkkokaupassa esillä mutta eivät vierekkäin taikka samalla kuvalla ??
pitäisikö sitä ajatella niin että jotkin valmistajat vain myyvät enemmän ja siksi heillä on halvemmat monitorit ??

Jos etsit tältä foorumilta hakusanalla 1680, niin löydät paljonkin juttua. Oleellista voisi olla, että ne ovat pre-Gutsy ajalta, voi olla, että ovat korjaantuneet ajan myötä.

Kaikki on hoitunut automaagisesti. Vältän kuin ruttoa 3D-kortteja, koska en pelaa. Minulle on riittäänyt hyvälaatuiset 2D-piirit tähän asti.

Kuten näkyy, niin tuolla xorg.conf-tiedostossa kummittelee tuo Nokian näyttö vielä, en ole käsin korjaillut missään vaiheessa mitään.

Ja tällä näytöllä kuva on todellakin aivan laidasta laitaan, ei mustia surunauhoja, joista noissa viesteissä myös kerrotaan, vaikka resoluutio olisikin oikea.

En oikeasti uskalla sanoa muuta kuin, että tämä yhdistelmä toimii.

Noh, tämä piti tarkistaa. Tein uuden xorg.conf-tiedoston, joka pysyi myös buutin jälkeen. Nyt näyttää jotenkin selkeämmältä.

kaikki mun resot ovat ihan oudoilla hz taajuuksilla, en ole varma että mun monitori edes kykenee näihin yli 90z taajuuksiin tällä resolla ??

Ei tehojen puolesta. Ajurit tosin ovat avoimet, mutta sitten se onko sillä väliä on eri asia. Kyllä mulla ainakin nvidian näyttikset on toiminut ihan hyvin.

Mikäs näytönohjain Tomppelilla on, tässä mun koneessa joko monitori taikka ohjain ni vähän ei toimi,
herzit siis todella outoja, ostan molemmat uusix ja nyt pitäisi saada vinkkejä sellaisilta ihmisiltä joilla laitteet toimivat..

T sanoit että Nvidia on toiminut hyvin, mitenkäs sinulla nuo hz taajuudet on, ovatko samat mitä windowssissa ??

tota 6200 sarjan gf ohjainta saa jotain 40e se varmaankin riittää linux käyttöön..

tämä on GeForce 5200 FX ja Syncmaster 1100df..
noi hz taajuudet ovat todella outoja..

Nvidia GeForce Go 7700 512 MB. Hyvin toimii ja hertsien kanssa ei ole ollut mitään ongelmaa, mutta näytönohjaimen tarkkuuden saa aina laittaa kohdalleen kun asentaa suljetut ajurit. Nyt toimii tarkkuudella 1440x900 ja 50 Hz joka on ihan ok.

Do you use the closed source nvidia drivers? If yes, then the wrong refresh rate is due to nvidias dynamic twinview stuff.

From the nvidia-glx README:
"Q. Why is the refresh rate not reported correctly by utilities that use the
   XRandR X extension (e.g., the GNOME "Screen Resolution Preferences" panel,
   `xrandr -q`, etc)?

A. The XRandR X extension is not presently aware of multiple display devices
   on a single X screen; it only sees the MetaMode bounding box, which may
   contain one or more actual modes. This means that if multiple MetaModes
   have the same bounding box, XRandR will not be able to distinguish between
   them.

   In order to support DynamicTwinView, the NVIDIA X driver must make each
   MetaMode appear to be unique to XRandR. Presently, the NVIDIA X driver
   accomplishes this by using the refresh rate as a unique identifier.

   You can use `nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate` to query the actual refresh
   rate on each display device.

   This behavior can be disabled by setting the X configuration option
   "DynamicTwinView" to FALSE."
