grubin mammuttikokoinen menu.lst 2.6.28-14 päivityksessä

Päivityksen jälkeen tuli grubin latauksessa tyhjä valikko, jonka editointi ei onnistunut.

CD:ltä boottaaminen paljasti että menu.lst:n koko oli paisunut 6.3 Mt:uun ja sisältö sotkua tyyliin:

Päivityksen asennus saattoi antaa virheilmon, jota en tullut katsoneeksi, koska jokin fonttiongelma antaa aina kasan virheilmoja. Mielenkiinnosta kysynkin onko kellään täällä hajuakaan mistä tuollainen mammuttitauti saattaisi johtua, googlaamalla en löytänyt selitystä.

Pääsetköhän tiedostoon muuten käsiksi kuin live-levyllä ?

Tossa nyt on malliksi mun grubini tärkeimmät tiedot. noita uuid:tä ei kannata käyttää vaan käytä (hd0,0) tai vastaavaa...

Googlaamalla varmaankin voit varmistaa asian..

Kiitos vastauksesta.

Ei siis auttanut muuta kuin CD:ltä puuttaaminen: Grubin editointitila toimi yhtä kummallisesti kuin mitä oli "menu.lst":n rakaennekkin, eikä siis ollut näkyvissä noita muuten valittavina olevia vanhoja bootti-valintoja. Onneksi asennus tekee backupin ko. tiedostosta, joten oli helppo vaihtaa nimiä.

Alkuperäinen syy taitaa olla, että olen aikojen kanssa itse lisäillyt sinne "automaatti-osioon" omia vaihtoehtoja, joiden kanssa päivitys sitten meni solmuun. Solmu vain oli huikean kokoinen! En todellakaan löytänyt Googelilla kenneltäkään vastaavaa ongelmaa.

Jos annan uuden kernelin päivityksen yhteydessä "menu.lst":n päivittyä siitä kasvaa muodoton, riveillä toistuu samat määreet uudelleen ja uudelleen. Olen taivastellut tätä ennenkin: http://forum.ubuntu-fi.org/index.php?topic=28186 Esim:

voi hyvänen aika. jostain syystä sinulle ei tunnu menevän perille se, että sinä et tiedä mistä sinä puhut. ensinnäkin, kyseinen "varoituksesi" oli turha, eikä sinulla ollut sille mitään perusteita ja sattumoisin tässä ketjussa ei ole kyse siitä mistä turhaan varoittelit siinä toisessa ketjussa. varoitukseesi viittaaminen täällä on siis tuplaturhaa, sikäli kun se nyt ylipäätään on mahdollista.

Ei tässä ole paljon tutkittavaa. Kyseessä ei ole 9.10. Kyseessä ei ole grub2. Tutkiminen on sikäli mahdotonta, ettei ketjun aloittajan /boot/grub/menu.lst ole nähtävillä liitteenä. Varoitus ei vaan liity tähän ketjuun millään tavalla.

Höh! menu.lst ei näyttäisi olevan enää /boot/grub -hakemistossa. Eikä Etsi-komento löytänyt sitä! Onkohan sillä tässä 9.10 versiossa joku muu nimi tai paikka?
Suomen Wiki laahaa jäljessä, että sieltä ohjeita löytyisi!

Höh! menu.lst ei näyttäisi olevan enää /boot/grub -hakemistossa.

Nyt 9.10 lähtien on käytössä oletuksena Grub 2, joka ei käytä menu.lst tiedostoa määrittelytiedostona, kuten vanhempi versio Grub:sta.

Tietysti on aina mahdollista asentaa "vanha" grub, jos haluaa käpistellä /boot/grub/menu.lst tiedostoa:

Perusasetukset tehdään /etc/default/grub -tiedostossa. Siellä voi esimerkiksi asettaa vakiona käynnistettävän kohteen.

Omat lisäykset valikkoon voi tehdä editoimalla /etc/grub.d/40_custom -tiedostoa.

Muokkausten jälkeen komennetaan sudo update-grub
