Asentaminen ja käyttöönotto / Re: Osioinnista

Jos Ubuntun asennus takkuilee  Windows koneeseen, niin eräs syy saattaa olla:
Ubuntu 6.06.1:n asennus Pc:hen, jossa ennestään Windows XP+SP2.
Koneessa on kaksi kovalevyä (C 160GT ja D 120GT), joista D on dynaaminen levy.
Windows on Primäärilevyllä C.Tiedostotyyppi NTFS.
Tyhjensin ja formatoin D levyn.Koska levy on dynaaminen, jää sinne windows tiedostoja.
En löytänyt ohjeita miten dynaamisen levyn muuttaa norm. paikalliseksi levyksi.
Aloitin Ubuntun asennuksen. Kaikki meni hyvin, kunnes piti suoritaa levyn osiointi.
Ohjelma lopetti toimintansa ja ilmoitti että tilaa ei osioinnin asennukselle löydy.
Muutaman eri vaihtoehtokokeilujen jälkeen suoritin C levyn eheytyksen saadakseni buuttitiedostolle tarpeellisen
yhtenäisen tilan . Aloitin taas Ubuntun asennuksen, mutta ennen kuin aloitin varsinaisen installoinnin(klikataan install ikonia), suoritin
Linuxissa d:LEVYN (02 levyn) formatoinnin ja vasta sitten aloitin installoinnin ja kaikki onnistui vaivattomasti. Koneessa on nyt Ubuntu ja Windows.
Mikäli ei haluta jättää Windowsia samaan koneeseen ja formatoidaan kaikki ennen Ubuntun asennusta, ei ylläolevista ongelmista tarvitse kärsiä.

Asentelin tuossa ubuntun ja laitoin siihen ohjeen mukaan nvidian ajurit. Käynnistyksessä tulee nvidian logo joten näiltä osin homman pitäs olla hanskassa. Ongelma on virkistystaajuus joka on 60Hz resolla 1280*1024. Pitäs olla 85. Miten tuon saisi vaihdettua?

Toinen kysymys liittyy päivitykseen.

Tuo kertonee ongelman. Mitenkähän tuosta pääsis eroon?

Avaa  sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf ja siellä  monitorin arvot muutetaan
HorizSync 31.5-150.0 (vain esimerkkiarvoja)
VertRefresh 40-75 (vain esimerkkiarvoja)
lukuarvojen pitäisi vastata ko. monitorin arvoja.
Jos arvot ovat esim. liian pienet , ei monitorin suurimpia resoluutioita saa käyttöön.
Sama kaiketi resoluution kohdalla.

Näillä ohjeilla alkoi Logitech M-M35 sarjaportin hiiri liikkua.
Kun allaolevat muutokset on tehty , kone käynnistetään uudelleen ja hiiri toimii.

I'm a noob who just installed Ubuntu, and I had issues getting my serial mouse to respond. First, let me thank the forum community. I found some great answers out there and I really appreciate that.

Ive borrowed some stuff from this post, so I want to give them credit =D> :

This post is to add a little to what was out there, as well as to note a couple of changes in Hoary (as most of the posts I used were for Warty).

If you install with a serial mouse, and you get no response, you need to alter one of you config files. The file you need to edit is either

Warty: /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
Hoary: /etc/X11/xorg.conf

In order to get there and do that, do the following:

Get to the login window for Ubuntu. Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get to the console.

(Alt F7 pääset takaisin graafiseen tilaan)

To get to the text editor, type
sudo nano /etc/X11/###

where you write your file name there at the end.
Siis
###= XF86Config-4 tai xorg.conf
Käytin xorg.conf

Scroll down through the file until you find the section for the mouse.
Change the line area that says
/dev/mouse/generic

to read /dev/ttyS0 (iso S ja nolla)

Note: that 0 is a zero, not a big letter O. I messed that up, and it took me hours to figure out why.

I've also found that you should change to protocol setion to read "Microsoft." I've only found this in some help guides, so I'm not sure how neccesary it is.

All you do now is hit ctrl+x to leave the editor, and y to say you want to save, and press enter to save the new file over the old one.

To finish up, you can do the following (I copied it from that forum I referenced earlier)


Hit alt-F7 to get back to the mouseless X window.
Hit ctrl-alt-backspace to exit X.
In the console that X exits to, start X again by typing startx&
Serial mouse should now be working.

That was kind of complicated for me, so I just rebooted after saving the file. It worked for me.

Also, to be on the safe side you might want to back up the files before you mess with them. To create a bkup, type the following in the console before starting:

sudo cp /etc/X11/### /etc/X11/###.bkup



So I hope that brings all the needed info together to help my fellow newbies in one descriptive location. It worked for me at least. Thanks so much to those who came before me, especially DaveB who replied to the forum I mentioned.

Installation proceeded fine, and was presented GDM greeter. But mouse cursor stays stuck in center of screen.

Mouse is : Logitech 3 button serial type, and works fine with mandrake and fc2.

how to configure mouse ?

adviise/suggestions grtly appreciated

I'd imagine it hasn't detected it properly, or you didn't answer its question when it installed X correctly.

You can run xf86config (text-based) or xf86cfg (GUI) to re-configure your XFree86 configuration, or edit it manually by editing /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 .

You'll want to change the lines that say something like:

Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"

to use a serial port.

Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
Option "Protocol" "Auto"

(Depending on the serial port to which your mouse is attached)

I recommend xf86cfg.
