Russia is building its own ARM processors for the government computer
Russian President Vladimir Putin sees the national computer as independent from American technology. The new computer chip Baikal must provide in the future for the old and new equipment protection from the NSA.
As the Russian news agency Itar-Tass reports, Russia wants to become independent from American suppliers with the development of its own computer processors.
By 2015, the first Baikal processor must be ready. It is being developed by Baikal Electronics, a subsidiary of the manufacturer of supercomputers, T-Platforms. Baikal is based on the core Cortex A-57th This 64-bit SoC has eight cores with a clock speed of two gigahertz and is the fastest processor design that the British company Advanced Risc Machines (ARM) currently has on offer.
Russia wants from next year to be no longer dependent on U.S. suppliers. The operating system for the new Russian computer is Linux, Linux is already widely used in Russia since the end of 2010.
