Asentelin tuossa omaan koneeseen Ubuntun (6.06). Geforcen ajureita yritin asennella kaikenlaisilla ohjeilla mutta ilman toivottua tulosta. Tuolla wikin ohjeella yritin ja siellä ehdotetulla englannin kielisellä.
Tokkopa tuo 3D-kiihdytys toimii toivotulla tavalla, koska näytönsäästäjistäkään ei osa näy. Ilman nvidian ajureita ne taas näkyy, mutta tökkien.
Kaikenlaisia ohjeita on selattu koko pääsiäisloma, mutta mukavahan tätä on säätää. ;D
Jos tuosta xorg.confista olis apua:

X on ollu jumissa jo useasti. Ajurit on poistettu ja asennettu uudestaan. Eipä tuo toimimattomuus haittaa tällästä tavallista käyttöä, mutta kivahan se olis saada toimimaan.
Kiitoksia jo näin etukäteen. Onhan tätä asiaa jo veivattukkin niin kotona kuin foorumillakin.

Geforce 6600 taitaa tarvita nvidia-legacy ajurit. foorumiin hakusana nvidia-glx-legacy löytyy ensiapua.

Mikäs se olis paras tapa lähteä ihan puhtaalta pöydältä liikeelle? Eihän tuota viittis uudelleen asentaa, jos siihen on olemassa helpompikin tapa.
NVIDIA-hakusanalla haettuna ei pakettienhallinnan mukaan ole tällä hetkellä asennettuna muuta kuin smartdimmer ja xserver-xorg-driver-nv
OT: Oma ubuntuversio on 32-bittinen, mutta masiina on AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Onkos tolla jotain vaikutusta ja onkos se 64-versio vakaa? Jostain taisin lukea että paree pysyä vielä 32-versiossa. Tiedä sitte, viisaammat kertokoot.

kerkesin tuossa jo ne ajurit asentamaan, mutta solmuun menee. Ihmekkös tuo, näillä käsillä... ;D

Eli jos asensit legacy-ajurit pakettivarastosta näin:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-legacy
saat ne pois näin.
sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-glx-legacy
sitten korvaat paketin nvidia-glx paketilla
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx
asenna vielä nvidia-kernel-common
sudo apt-get install nvidia-kernel-common
sitten komennat
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorgjolloin xorg.conf tiedosto palautetaan oletusasetuksille,
jolloin menee läpi komento
sudo nvidia-glx-config enable
käynnistä X uudelleen painamalla ctrl+alt+backspace. Nvidian pitäisi toimia ;)

kannattaa vielä pysytellä tosiaan siinä 32-bittisessä.

Tein yllä olevien ohjeiden mukaan. Kaikki asentui mallikaasti ja X latautui hyvin. Vieläkään ei toimi nuo näytönsäästäjät.

Komensitko varmasti tuon
sudo nvidia-glx-config enable
Kun nv ajuri näyttäis olevan vielä käytössä. Jos ajoit tuon, vaihda siihen xorgiin käsin se nvidia
eli avaa xorg.conf pääkäyttäjän oikeuksin gedit tekstieditorilla
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
etsi tämä kohta

Elikkäs aika lailla samassa missä ennenkin.
Josko se uudelleenasennus auttais. Eihän tämä Ubuntu ole ollu koneella vasta kuin torstaista asti. Jos siellä on jossain menny joku homma niin sanotusti puihin. Onko se edes mahdollista?
Ja eihän sitä tiedä vaikka kakarat/mukulat olis käyny jossain välissä säätämässä ruuvia koneesta... :)
Kyllä se Ubuntu lähtee tästä rullaamaan, niin sanotusti "pitkäaikainen haave" ;D

Ku ei oikein tiedä mitä toi "menee solmuun" tarkoittaa, niin voisit kokeilla seuraavaks..
Lataa Nvidian sivuilta (http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run) viimeisin ajuri.
Varmista ennen asennusta, että:
- make ja gcc on asennettu
- linux-headers paketti käyttämälle kernelille on asennettu
- pkg-config ja xserver-xorg-dev on asennettu
- vanha nvidia-glx paketti on poistettu --purge optiolla ja /etc/init.d/nvidia-glx ei löydy
- linux-restricted-modules on poistettu
Sitten vaa virtuaalikonsoliin eli:
1) ctrl+alt+f2, kirjaudu sisään
2) ajetaan alas kdm (kubuntu) tai gdm (ubuntu) komennolla: sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop tai sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
3) ajetaan toi run paketti muistaakseni komennolla: sudo sh xxxx.run
4) asennuksen jälkeen käynnistetään graafinen puoli uudelleen: sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start tai sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start

Moiset kaksi riviä
noilla HorizSync ja VertSync riveillä asetetaan monitorin vaaka- ja pysty-ajoitus, jos näytössä näkyy värinöitä. Joskus arvot menevät jopa niin paljon yli, että littunäyttössä singnaali menee yli sallitun arvon, jolloin näyttö pimenee yleensä "singnal out of range" tai vastaavan ilmoituksen kera. Arvothan riippuvat täysin monitorista, joka on käytössä ja ne löytyvätkin yleensä käyttöohjekirjasta tai valmistajan nettisivulta.
sudo nvidia-glx-config enableTässä välissä ei tule mitään tekstiä (kuuluuko edes?)
Kyllä siinä pitäisi tulla tekstiä, jossa kerrotaan xorg.conf tiedoston varmuuskopion nimi, yms.
yritäs vielä vastaavaa komentoa, jolla luodaan nvidian asetukset, josko se tulostaisi virheilmoituksen, jos jokin on pielessä.
sudo nvidia-xconfig --no-composite
Oletko kenties ottanut aiemmin käyttöön jotain pakettivarastoja (eli muokannut tiedostoa /etc/apt/sources.list), joissa olisi mahdollisesti jotain muita versioita nvidian ajureista kuin ubuntun omissa pakettivarastoissa?
Sama litania uudestaan. Muutetaan nv nvidiaksi --- menee solmuun
Tuleeko mitään virheilmoitusta? Tänne jos tulee.

Ku ei oikein tiedä mitä toi "menee solmuun" tarkoittaa, niin voisit kokeilla seuraavaks..
Lataa Nvidian sivuilta (http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run) viimeisin ajuri.
Varmista ennen asennusta, että:
- make ja gcc on asennettu

Pitäisikö olla asennettuna "libc6-amd64" koska koneessa on AMD Athlon 64 3200+ vai mikä?
Jos tuo ei toimi niin mites noitten edellä mainittujen asennuksien poisto? Onko se tarpeellista? Jos vaikka sitte kokeilis tuo Tonden ohjetta aikaisemilla nvidia-glx ohjeilla.

dev -pakettia se siinä vinkuu. Mutta en nyt näe mitään syytä miksi asentaa nvidian ajurit pakettilähteen ulkopuolelta(no ok jos näyttis on liian uusi niin sitten mutta 6600 ei ole vielä liian uusi). Siis ajurien asentaminehan menee yksinkertaisesti näin:
1.) sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r` nvidia-glx
2.) sudo nvidia-xconfig
3.) buuttaa x. (alt+cntrl+askelpalautin tai sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart)
Jos x ei lähde käyntiin vaan törmäät taas mustaan seinään, vaihda taas nvdian tilalle nv ja käynnistä x ja tutki mitä logeissa lukee:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old | grep EE(öö tai dapperin aikaista logi systeemiä en kyllä nyt muista, voi olla että se oli vielä erilainen kuin edgyssä ja feistyssä. Jos tiedostoa Xorg.0.log.old ei löydy, niin katso sellainen logi mistä löytyy rivejä NVIDIA(0) sitä NVIDIA(0) tätä)

Muistan kokeilleeni tuota samaa litaniaa aikaisemmin, mutta ihan mielenkiinnosta Linuxin käyttäytymistä kohtaan kysyisin oliko noilla "make" "gcc" "pkg-config" paketeilla osuutta asiaan. Niitä ei oltu asennettu ennen tuke81 ohjeita onneen.
Mikä on välttämätöntä ja mikä ei nvidian toiminnalle? Ei sillä että ne nyt menisin sitte poistamaan ;D
Nyt mukava lähtee sorvin ääreen. Ei tartte miettii päätä puhki töissä.

Tomii seuraavan kernelin päivitykseen asti, asenna linux-xxx paketti, jossa xxx on kernelisi arkkitehtuuri ja jonka saat tietoosi komennolla uname -r(eli esim. 2.6.20-14-generic -> 2.6.20-14 on kernel versio ja se on generic arkkitehtuurilla)
